Register your rebate

  • Go to teslaenergyrebate.com and click "Register my Rebate"
  • Upload your Sunrun agreement — the one you initially signed
  • Confirm your email and phone number, then submit
  • Deadline is March 31, 2026 — this is strict

Installation

  • Sunrun installs your Powerwall batteries and connects them to Wi-Fi
  • Your batteries will appear in the Tesla app
  • Installation must happen between January 1 – September 30, 2026

Submit your final claim

  • Log back into teslaenergyrebate.com
  • Upload your Sunrun Customer Approved Agreement
  • Upload a screenshot of your serial number (14 digits) from the Tesla app: Settings → My Home Information → My Products
  • Submit by September 30, 2026
  • Tesla sends you a Virtual Visa card within 4–8 weeks

Virtual Power Plant Rewards

Earn rewards every season for each battery in your system

Confirm your enrollment

  • Watch for an email from Sunrun confirming you qualify and are enrolled
  • No action required — enrollment is automatic for qualifying California battery customers
  • If you don't receive the email by late April, contact Sunrun or your rep

Season participation

  • From May through October, your batteries automatically support the grid during peak demand
  • Grid events happen between 4–9 PM, last 1–2 hours each, up to 35 times per season
  • Your battery powers your home first, then exports extra energy to the grid
  • 20% always reserved for backup — you're never left without power
  • During an actual outage, your battery does NOT send energy to the grid — all power stays with your home
  • You also earn NEM credits on your utility bill for exported energy

Claim your reward

  • After the season ends, Sunrun sends you an email in November with redemption instructions
  • You receive a reward for each battery enrolled for the full season
  • The reward is yours to spend however you want
